Quick Tips for Ushers in the Wedding

Define USHER : a person who shows people to their seats, especially in a theater or at a wedding.
synonyms:  guide, attendant, escort.  "An usher showed them to their seats."

Not every wedding needs to have Ushers.  They serve an important role in the wedding, but as weddings have become less formal (not in attire) the responsibilities have become relaxed.

Here are four quick tips when choosing who, how and what they will wear for the wedding.

1.  Don't be fooled into thinking an usher must wear a tuxedo. This idea came about mostly because the tuxedo industry promises the groom free attire if 5 or more persons in your wedding party ordered a rental tux. This has been going on for decades, and is now considered the norm. Now that most young men do not even own a SUIT - renting a tuxedo seems to be the best option.

2.  Choose ushers who are not shy.  They should like to greet people, answer questions regarding the venue, and offer a wedding program to your guests.

3.  As an escort, an usher offers his RIGHT ARM to a lady and walks her to her seat.

4. Be sure the usher(s) have a boutonniere to show them you honor their role in the wedding.
